	Pond Construction with Liners

Pond liners are used in small decretive back yard ponds to larger ponds 300’ plus. Many people are putting in medium size ponds that range from 30-55’ wide and 50-75’ long. Some ponds can be 15’ deep, depending on the ground and soil underneath. These pictures are of our own front pond, set up for landscaping and demonstration. With the deepest part at 12’ and a shallower end at 5’, it will be used for swimming as well. In ponds that have sand or gravel bases where the water table goes down in the summer lined ponds only need topped up. For landscaping or larger Koi ponds you can keep the water level where you need it.


	After taking away the top soil for later landscaping the operator starts to contour the pond walls. If clay is the base to the pond you can get a steeper slope on the sides.


	After the pond has been dug to the size and depth you want the liner is unrolled and pulled into the hole. Ask us about the steps here to ensure the liner stays down till you have it full of water. The pond water level should be 2-3’ higher then the water table so water pressure holds liner down.


	There are different ways to fill the pond with water, here we brought in 4 loads of water to settle the pond liner quickly. Then we filled it with our own well over the next couple of days. Fill the pond in intervals so not to overload the pump. Here we have 2-4” rocks lining the walls for biofiltration and looks. Trim or edge the liner and landscape, Ponds add value in many ways.
